| The 30th Year celebration of the formation of Bay Roskill Vikings Sports Club was a great success. Over Labour weekend many past and present members of both Mt Roskill and Blockhouse League Clubs and their original contributory clubs meet to renew old friendships and to be welcomed to be part of the Club going forward. |
| Friday was started with a Golf Day and moved on to a Friday night Mix & Mingle at the Club. This provided the opportunity for a large crowd to tell stories and renew those friendships. |
| On the Saturday a curtain raiser between the Bay Roskill Vikings Masters and the Avondale Wolves Masters set the platform for the main game. This was a great spectacle between the All Stars Kiwi League Team managed by Don Hamond and Shane Dowsett and a Bay Roskill Vikings Representative Team. The All Star Team that was assembled included Logan Swann, Stacey Jones, Ruben Wiki, Monty Betham together with a long list of past Greats. |
| This game was played in the true spirit of Rugby League with both teams playing for the win. The Bay Roskill Vikings started full of running and spirit and were leading at half time. The second half saw the All Star Kiwis then show their class with continued ball control resulting in several classic tries. When the final whistle was blown the All Star Kiwis came out worthy winners. |
| It is planned to make this event a regular outing where in the future more players and spectators will be able to be part of mixing and talking to our past Kiwi Greats. A big thanks is awarded to those Ex Kiwis who made themselves available. |
| The atmosphere in the Club afterwards was a fitting end to a magnificent Saturday. There was over 2000 spectators present to witness this event. |
| On Sunday morning the keen and faithful assembled to watch the current Kiwis take it to the Australians in England. That evening was a Sports Dinner at the Club with Graham Lowe addressing those present. An ex Blockhouse player Dale Husband was the MC for the evening. |
| The Bay Roskill Vikings Sports Club has some exciting expansion plans for their Club facilities coming up which will be of great benefit to both Club members and the greater public. For a further insight to the Club activities and a release of things to come this will be revealed and updated on the Club web site www.myclub.co.nz/bayroskillvikings. |
